Dermal Fillers

Overview

Dermal fillers are used to introduce volume back in to areas of the face that have lost volume during the ageing process

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are clear, sterile gels made from hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is found in all living tissue where it binds to water, producing hydration, softness and volume to the skin. As we age our own HA becomes less efficient, leading to the loss of natural elasticity and volume. There are a huge variety of fillers on the market but at The Face Firm I offer the fillers that have the largest safety profile, such as Juvederm, Restylane, Aliaxin, Teoxane and Profhilo. Some of these fillers also contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, making the treatment almost entirely pain-free.

What can be treated with dermal fillers?

I currently offer fillers in the following areas:

  • Lips

  • Cheeks

  • Jaw line

  • Naso-labial folds (nose-to-mouth lines)

  • Marionette lines (lines from the corner of your mouth to your chin)

  • Corners of the mouth (that can sometimes make you look unhappy)

  • PROFHILO - mid and lower face.

What does the treatment involve?

At your initial consultation  we will determine the areas that you feel would benefit from added volume. Once the areas have been decided on, the brand or strength of the dermal filler to be used will be assessed according to your needs and your desired outcome. During some procedures, topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) will be applied to the area that will be injected to minimise any discomfort of the injections. Once this has started to take effect I will cleanse the area and begin the treatment. The procedure can be performed using a very fine needle or a cannula, to allow a slow injection of the colourless smooth gel, which immediately lifts static lines. Sometimes a little massage is required but this depends on the depth of the product I am using.

How long does the treatment take?

The dermal filler treatment can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the number of areas to be treated.

How much does the treatment cost?

Dermal fillers come in a variety of volumes and thickness and vary in price. The cost of your treatment will also depend on how much product I need to use. Prices start at £200 and you will be informed of the price before the treatment starts.

How long will the effects last?

The results from this treatment will be seen immediately. The length of time these results will last differs between each individual, the type of dermal filler used and the area that is treated. Hyaluronic acid is something that our body naturally breaks up and those with a higher metabolism will break the product up quicker than those with a slow metabolism. If you have the dermal filler injected into somewhere with a lot of movement such as your lips, this will also result in the product being broken down quicker. However, on average the dermal fillers can last anywhere between 3 and 18 months.

With repeated treatments, the benefits of dermal fillers build up so that the effects will be greater and will stay for a longer period of time.
